Robert Witham was an English Catholic priest, theologian, and biblical commentator educated at Douai. He served as president of the English College at Douai and produced an English New Testament with extensive annotations in 1730. His notes defended Catholic readings of disputed passages while also explaining historical and linguistic matters. Haydock frequently drew upon Witham, especially for New Testament commentary, making him an important intermediary between earlier post-Reformation Catholic scholarship and nineteenth-century English Catholic Bible publishing.
