Hugh was an Augustinian canon and teacher at the Abbey of Saint Victor in Paris. He wrote on Scripture, theology, sacraments, contemplation, and education. His Didascalicon presents a broad program of learning ordered toward wisdom, while On the Sacraments of the Christian Faith offers a major medieval synthesis. Hugh helped establish the Victorine tradition’s integration of scholarship, symbolism, and contemplative spirituality.
