Clement was a Christian teacher in Alexandria who sought to show that philosophy could prepare the mind for the fullness of truth in Christ. His major surviving works are the Protrepticus, Paedagogus, and Stromata. He addressed Christian formation, ethics, knowledge, Scripture, and the relation between faith and Greek culture. Clement’s biblical interpretation is often allegorical and reflects Alexandria’s intellectually diverse environment.
